EpicPromise is a Vail Resorts-wide initiative to support sustainability within our local communities. At Park City, this means preserving our natural environments and contributing to the success of the community. It's important to bond together as communities, employees and guests and ignite our passion for the outdoors, conserve the natural environment and support our local environments for a bright, sustainable future.

See what we're doing to help protect the place we call home and see what you can do!

What can I do?

* Save Energy: Park City employees can get 4 free LED light bulbs through our partnership with Rocky Mountain Power.  LED light bulbs use only 2-17 watts of electricity (1/3rd to 1/30th of Incandescent or CFL). LED bulbs used in fixtures inside the home save electricity, remain cool and save money on replacement costs since LED bulbs last so long. Small LED flashlight bulbs will extend battery life 10 to 15 times longer than with incandescent bulbs.

* Eat Local. Shop Local:  Stop by the Park City Farmers Market this summer. Buying local food keeps your dollars circulating in your community. Getting to know the farmers who grow your food builds relationships based on understanding and trust, the foundation of strong communities. Local food doesn’t have to travel far. This reduces carbon dioxide emissions and packing materials. Buying local food also helps to make farming more profitable and selling farmland for development less attractive.

* Recycle: What we put in our trash determines what leaches into our ground water the landfill! Help keep toxic waste out of the landfill so our drinking water is safe!  Recycling someting like plastic for example, will keep harmful BPA our of our water sources.  Ground water plays an essential role in our environment and public health.

* Carpool or ride public transit: Park City has an excellent free transit system, which makes getting around very affordable. Reduce our carbon footprint and help improve air quality in Park City by carpooling when possible or taking public transit.  Green or eco-friendly travel does not have to be hard travel.

* Reuse: We're all anxious to get out and hike or bike in the mountains this summer, consider bringing a reusable water bottle and filling it at our water filling stations around the resort. Did you know that enough plastic is thrown away to circle the earth 4 times? When you bring your own water bottles, reusable bags, and toiletries you not only help reduce plastic and waste consumption but also help prevent plastic bags and bottles from entering landfills where it can take hundreds of years for them to break down.

What Are We Doing?

* More Efficient Snowmaking: Since 2005 the snowmaking department has reduced their carbon footprint by more than 1,100 tons per year. More efficient snowmaking machines and system changes and upgrades have resulted in approx. 15 percent reduction in energy use. They continue to make changes and test system and snow machine technology advancements to further reduce the energy demand.

* Reducing our Carbon Footprint: Since 2005, we've reduced its carbon footprint by more than 70,000 tons -- that's like taking 14,000 cars off the road for an entire year.

* Recycling: Since 2008, we've recycled more than 672,000 pounds of steel, cardboard and co-mingled materials.

* Reuse: Since being installed in 2012, Park City's water filling stations have eliminated consumption of more than 35,000 water bottles. Guests can contribute by using the filling station outside Jupiter Java inside Legacy Lodge.

* EpicProise Grants: Through the EpicPromise Grant Program, Vail Resorts give more than $7 milliion in cash and in-kind support to more than 250 nonprofit partners in local communities each year.
