With spring right around the corner, there's sure to be one thing on all of our minds—spring break! And for us on the mountain, that means skiing under blue skies, weekends full of live concerts and events, and celebrating the changing of seasons with friends and family. To help you do the same, we've broken down the key ingredients of an epic spring break in Park City into ten easy steps. Read on and start planning!
10.) Bust Out Your Spring Wardrobe
As the frigid winter weather starts to give way to spring's sunny skies and warmer temperatures, your mountain attire can also take a turn. Say so long to bulky layers and insulation and hello to retro onesies and polychrome sunglasses. Feel free to get creative with your outfit for the day—you'll see everything from animal-themed costumes to patterned tights on the particularly warm days. But for your everyday wear, you can find an abundance of styles and brands right on-site of the two base areas. Stop into Canyon Mountain Sports and Legacy Sports for your new spring outfit any day from 8am - 7pm.
9.) Get in the Spring Grüv
Spring Grüv is a 16-day lineup of local and national musical artists, like Vista Kicks and The Record Company, and traditional Park City events including the 22nd Annual Pond Skimming Competition. During this spring time celebration, family-friendly activities are offered every day at the Park City Mountain Village and Canyons Village. Meet our Ski Patrol’s avalanche dogs on the mountain for showcasing of their talents and cuteness, or see who can make the messiest s’mores at the end of the day around the firepits. Check out all of Spring Grüv’s daily village activities on our Events Calendar.
8.) Become a Groomer Guru
A "groomer" is a skier's term for a groomed trail, and becoming a “groomer guru” is all about knowing how to navigate the mountain. The trick is to follow the sun, where you’ll find the softest corduroy. In the morning, start on the south-facing slopes, like off of the Bonanza or Saddleback chairlifts, and gradually ski towards north-facing slopes in the afternoon, like on the King Con or Dreamscape chairlifts.
The best way to learn to become a groomer guru is to reserve a Peak to Peak Guided Experience with our Ski & Snowboard School. Your instructor will have local’s knowledge, excellent instruction, and helpful tips while you learn to navigate our expansive mountain.
7.) Compete in the 22nd Annual Pond Skimming Competition
Registration goes live at 12pm on Thursday, March 1st. Click here to enter!
Park City’s Pond Skimming Competition is a tradition that attracts as much talent as it does hilarity. Come dressed in your best costume and then launch yourself down a snowy slope aimed directly at the man-made pond outside of Red Pine Lodge. The goal is obviously to skim completely across the pond without sinking, but we all come to watch for the biggest crashes and splashes. Judges give points for style, costume, and performance.
Knowing you’ll be outside in the late-season sun in questionable attire, be sure to protect yourself from the reflections off of the snow and water by lathering on Supergoop! sunscreen. Find samples and purchasable products in Red Pine Lodge.
6.) Experience the True Meaning of “Bluebird Day”
Park City’s spring weather is famous for the always-pleasing “bluebird day”, or a beautiful clear blue sky after a snowstorm. To experience a bluebird day is to experience the best of both worlds—fresh powder and sunny weather. Don’t be fooled into thinking that just because it’s not technically winter any more that the snow is gone. Spring can easily bring in the best powder days. So rest assured, with Park City Mountain's miles of terrain, everyone can find their own stash of freshies.
5.) Dance Your Heart Out at the Spring Concert Series
The beautiful weather outside is a perfect reason to check out Park City’s outdoor concert series. Starting in March, live bands will play every Saturday on either side of the resort. Head over to the outdoor stage after skiing or come by on your day off of the snow. The concerts, ranging from rock to reggae, are always free and always fun! Check the Events Calendar to see who’s playing every week.
4.) Catch Some Sun on the On-Mountain Patios
Forget about hiding in the lodge and trying to regain feeling in your fingers and toes. Pick a deck at any of our on-mountain restaurants, sprawl out on the patio chairs, and bask yourself in the warm spring sun. Find company in a glass of wine and the breathtaking views of the Wasatch Range at Lookout Cabin, go for a blast from the past while you lunch at the historic Mid-Mountain Lodge, or sip on a well-deserved brew atop Red Pine Lodge after a fun day on the slopes. Each of the 10 on-mountain patios share a different view, but the same old, beautiful sun.
3.) Après Like You Mean It
The French term “après ski” translates to “after ski”, but here in Park City we figure, “Why wait?” Take the Town Lift straight from the slopes to Main Street. There you’ll find High West Distillery, a Park City-native whiskey distillery, where you can sample house-made spirits, drink high-quality cocktails, or snack on the western-style menu. Legends Bar & Grill at the base of Park City Mountain Village also offers casual dining and delicious drinks, while Umbrella Bar at the base of Canyons Village offers resort-life atmosphere with foosball tables and tap-served beer.
2.) Tear Up the Town on Historic Main Street
There’s no place in town like Historic Main Street. Find family-friendly restaurants like The Eating Establishment and Vinto Pizzeria or something more intimate like Tupelo or Riverhorse On Main. The street is top-to-bottom with photo galleries, clothing boutiques, souvenir shops, and of course—bars.
The No Name Saloon is a Park City nightlife staple, with heated rooftop seating and an eclectic interior. Nearby you’ll find an abundance of other bars, each with their own unique atmosphere and menu. But if you’re a music lover, the must-go venues to check out are Park City Live and OP Rockwell.
