S'mores.jpg My personal favorite. S'mores

What are Jafflz? How do you pronounce that? And what do you call just one, a “Jaffl”? Where can you buy them? Give me some answers!

You have come to the right place. And soon, you will be THANKING me for introducing you to one of the most delicious, most convenient things to eat on the mountain. Read on…

Jafflz (“Jaw-fulls”, which is ironic pronunciation) are toasted pocket sandwiches. Imagine a calzone, but small and circular, roughly the size of your hand (unless you have tiny hands. So, let’s envision an average-sized hand for argument’s sake.). The best thing about these sandwiches is that they are incredible easy to eat on the run. On numerous occasions (okay, more frequent than that- I’m obsessed) I will buy a Jaffle and eat it while I’m in the lift line / riding up the chair. The sandwich stays together with its pressed edges, and has just the right amount of filling to stay inside the bread and fill you up while being 99.9% mess free! The only problem with this is- and trust me from personal experience- that you will have to fight off wandering eyes of those around you. And when your friends and/or significant other says, “Oh I just want a bite,” don’t give in! That is a lie! They will be coming back for more. Do yourself a favor, and just buy two at a time to save yourself.

Also, for good grammar, a singular sandwich is a “Jaffle”, which is the way they are spelled in South Africa where they originated. And the story of how these native African sandwiches made their way to Park City, UT is pretty fascinating! Chef Meryl  van der Merwe is a native to Cape Town, South Africa. She has shared her cuisine talents all over the world, and lucky us, she planted herself near Park City, UT to found her company. Her worldly experiences and tastes are incorporated in the vast menu selections available, making these grab-and-go sandwiches anything but ordinary!

There are currently 27 Jafflz to choose from, ranging from sweet to savory. If you’re a breakfast person, or just like breakfast foods all day long, then the Eggz category is for you! Let your mouth water over all the possible eggs, sausage, and cheese combos you could ever want. Or how about fighting off that sweet tooth crazing with a S’Mores Jaffle- all the goodness of a campfire without having to pray the marshmallow doesn’t fall off your stick into the fire pit. Any Nutella addicts out there? Choco Mono Jaffle is for you. Nutella and banana, people. They’ve got you covered. For those who are more adventurous, or just want to try something new, there is a selection of Jafflz that will introduce you to whatever worldly experience you desire, from curry, to jumbo, to Asian, to African.

Now that I’ve got you hooked, I’ll finally tell you where and how to get your hands on them! Here are Park City Mountain Resort, Jafflz sell their sandwiches in two locations: at The Shack on the Park City Base Area side close to First Time lift, and at Red Pine Outpost on the Canyons Village side at the base of Saddleback and High Meadow chairs. At these locations, check the daily Jafflz board to see which variety are available for purchase that day. There will ALWAYS be at least one that will appeal to you, guaranteed. Their headquarters are located in Silver Summit (a region of Park City), and by visiting their website you can order frozen Jafflz online for free delivery (minimum 6-pack order required, and they even come along with re-heating instructions so you don’t completely ruin the experience by lighting them on fire)! Then you can have your pick of whichever of the 27 options you want. I can confess that this is what my freezer is full of… Best. Decision. Ever. So get going, and check out their website to start prioritizing your list of which to try first: jafflz.com.
