What a surprising start of the season! After hitting the mid-60's almost every day for the the first two weeks in November, I thought winter might never come. But my anxiety faded as soon as the first storm hit after Thanksgiving because just like that! Our beautiful mountains were white again.
The cold weather stuck and our teams went to work! The Mountain Operations department opened six times as many lifts only a week after Opening Day, ski school students walked into freshly remodeled classrooms, and our Guest Services and Mountain Dining have never looked better!
We're excited for another year at Park City Mountain! Keep checking back on this post to see all of our favorite moments of the 2016/2017 season!
Hello Winter! Park City Mountain Opens for 2016/2017!
The beginning of another great season is in the books! The opening day lines at PayDay lift and Red Pine Gondola were greeted with hot chocolate and all smiles, both sides opening within a day of each other. Shortly after Thanksgiving day, a November storm brought in 24 inches of powder that we all hope for in the early season With new terrain opening daily, it was clear that winter was here to stay.
Mountain Dining Revamps On-Mountain Menus
We love skiing, but we also love food. To make that obvious, our resident foodie skied with one of our executive chefs to try out all of the updated resort dining menus. Park City Mountain's newest on-mountain restaurant, Miners Camp, is serving up a state-of-the-art dining experience. Dishes like the Mediterranean lamb gyro with feta cheese and full-flavored couscous contain locally sourced ingredients. You'll want to put as much thought into your food as you do your runs for the day when visiting the recently remodeled Cloud Dine and Red Pine Lodge. With this many options for mountain cuisine, it is impossible to go hungry.
Early Season Storms
There's nothing quite like fresh tracks on a powder day. Our early Decmber storm, delivering 24 inches, was humid and strong and gave our mountain and rivers the moisture they need. With the new snow, our Mountain Operations team was able to open 35 new runs in one day! Skiing on the new snow proved why our guests and locals come back year after year: soft groomers, pristine powder, and endless terrain!
Peak to Peak Guided Mountain Experience
Our Ski & Snowboard School is offering an experience of a lifetime! With over 300 trails to explore, it is easy to feel like you're skiing in circles. Instead, take a guided tour of the mountain with one of our qualified instructors. A personalized journey will provide you with mountain tips from your local instructor, the best stashes on the mountain, and new skills and techniques to improve upon your fundamental movements. Whether you're new to the sport or looking to challenge yourself with more challenging terrain, a guided experience will be the perfect way to discover what our mountain has to offer.
Quicksilver Gondola Opens for its 2nd Season
The Quicksilver Gondola opened in time for the holidays! The Gondola is unique as it connects 7,300 skiable acres from the Park City Base Area to Canyons Village, making us the largest ski resort in the United States. With Quicksilver spinning, skiers and snowboarders can access either side of the mountain, 324 trails, and 41 lifts. From lunching at Cloud Dine to skiing the top of Jupiter Peak, the day can take you anywhere!
Celebrating SnowFest in Park City
To kick off the holidays we broke out the hot chocolate, lit up the trees, and gave Santa our lists. When we weren't skiing or snowboarding, we were jamming out to free apres concerts or heading to any of the 16 days of SnowFest celebration activities! Santa Claus came to visit and even skied down the mountain during our 54th Annual Torchlight Parade. Holiday season can be anyone's favorite time of year, but it's everyone's favorite at Park City Mountain!
