Making lasting memories is easy in such a versatile town like Park City. Not every day has to be a ski or snowboard day to have fun around here! Whether it’s over the holidays or just a day off, these are a few of my favorite things to do in town as a family.
The Alpine Coaster & Flying Eagle
A sure way to put a smile on kids’ faces is by sending them zooming down the Alpine Coaster or flying high on the Flying Eagle Zip Line. It’s easily the fan favorite of my younger family members and ski school students.
The Alpine Coaster lets you go whizzing through a winter wonderland. Toboggan-style cars can carry one adult and one child and give you the power to adjust your own speed. The Flying Eagle is a two-person ride that flies high above one of our busiest runs.
A ride on the coaster or zip line is the perfect adrenaline rush!
Private Family Snowshoe Tour
A memorable winter family outing is a private snowshoe tour in Canyons Village. Whether you’re looking to take time exploring the snowy trails with your little ones or get your blood moving, your guide can adjust the speed and difficulty of your journey through the woods.
Hike deep into the aspens and evergreens while you look for wildlife and play in the snow. Remember to keep an eye on the weather in case of snow fall or warm spring temperatures. Dressing in layers is always helpful.
The snowshoes, trekking poles, and the Gondola ride ticket are all included.
Horse-Drawn Sleigh Ride
If you have ever skied by the Snowed Inn Lodge on Turtle Trail, you’ve probably heard the sound of horse hooves on the snow or smelled the hay on the ground. Peak through the trees and you’ll spot the draft horses that pull the Snowed Inn sleighs at night!
The sleighs can fit between 10 and 12 people and take you across the mountain to beautiful views of Park City under the comfort of a warm wool blanket. I recommend choosing the sleigh ride offered with dinner. Arrive to the western-style meal prepared on the mountain, warm up in the cozy mountain lodge, and enjoy your sleigh ride back afterwards.
The Canyons Village side also offers scenic 25-30 minute sleigh rides. Reservations are required.
Outdoor Ice Skating
If you’re looking for a low price activity for the whole family, stop by the Resort Center Ice Skating Rink!
Sitting in the lower plaza of the resort’s Park City base area is an outdoor skating rink perfect for all ages. The Resort Center Ice Skating rink offers both hockey and figure skates and complimentary skate walkers to help the little ones ice skate all by themselves.
The best part is that you can skate for as long as you want without any time limits!
Utah Olympic Park Museums
If the weather is blustery, don’t let it ruin your day. A fun and interactive way to learn about the history of skiing and the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games is at Park City’s Utah Olympic Park.
The indoor facility has touch screen displays, videos, a virtual reality ski theatre, games, and topographical maps to highlight the ski industry’s progress through the years.
Plus, admission is free!
