If there's one party not to miss in Park City, it's the Fourth of July. Anxious to get to the 11AM parade on Main Street, I filled my Bloody Mary up to its rim and headed out of my apartment for a day of celebrating America's Independence Day. City Park was bustling with its annual Rugby Game, Beer Garden and filled with other patrons enjoying the beautiful Utah sunshine. I could have laid on that grass all day, but my main objective was the parade.... and I needed to refill my Bloody!
Walking up Park Ave on my way to the parade, the streets were lined with anxious faces waiting for the first float to come down the street. The entire parade route was standing room only as parade goers looked up anxiously for the start of the parade. With the passing of the Police Bikes, the floats began.....floating? One by one, local businesses showed off their floats. Some passing out candy, some shooting water, and other highly creative floats were featured in this year's march. Here at Park City Mountain, we dedicated our float to our Ski Patrol and Avalanche Dogs. To capture the excitement, we strapped a GoPro onto our dogs and had them "fetch" us content to capture the parade. Watching the footage, I have to say, these dogs sure know how to have a good time.
Following the parade, it was back to the mountain. The events team had a big evening planned for us celebrators at the Park City Base Area with the band "Holy Water Buffalo" getting the party started. Working my way around the crowd, I found the Beer Garden, and even more important, the BBQ pit put on by our own Mountain Dining. Chef Alex Malmborg served me a delicious pulled-pork sandwich. If you've ever skied to the Tombstone Grill in the winter, you know these guys don't mess around with their BBQ. Tasty sandwich in hand, I met my party and we were ready for the Fireworks.....
